A company I do business with recently sent us a message inviting us to see their new
cleaner, simpler, faster website design. A lot of companies have been reading the Nielson reports and other surveys (e.g. that
talk about billions of dollars lost because of slow websites) and are shifting their priorities accordingly. They want to make
money, we want to "sell" the gospel. Our website design priorities, whether they be for profit or for the gospel should be much
the same.
Clean and Simple (Simple Elegance) -- Many companies have studied
the surveys and paid their consultants the big bucks for a website that will maximize profits. They are more and more declaring
their top priorities to be Simple, Clean and Fast.
Page Load Time is Important -- Zona Research estimates that over half of
internet business opportunities are lost because of slow loading websites. They estimate the lost sales to be $25 billion.
Jakob Nielsen states that a fast load time should be your most important design consideration.
Speed Up Your Website -- There are many simple things that can be done
to speed up your website and numerous mistakes to be avoided.
These are some of the eChurch Award sites that are
designed to load quickly:
Feb 2003 -- Riverside Seventh-day Adventist
Church
July 2003 -- Richland Seventh-day Adventist
Church
Oct 2004 -- Camelback Seventh-day Adventist
Church -- Year 2004 winner
Dec 2004 -- Walker Memorial Church
